Step 1. Turn your Bissell vacuum cleaner off and unplug it from your power outlet before you begin the cleaning process.
Step 2. Press the release button on top of the vacuum canister to disconnect it from the vacuum cleaner and then set it aside.
Step 3. To open the vacuum canister, lift the filter tab then lift the cover of the canister up.
Step 4. The black foam filter you will see at the top of the cover of the canister is the pre filter. Take it out and set aside.
Step 5. You will find the post motor filter at the front of the vacuum cleaner. Open the filter door by pulling on the latch with the filter logo pointing to it.
Step 6. Pull the filter out of the vacuum cleaner.
Step 7. Tap the post motor filter on the side of a trash can or sink to get rid of loose dirt then wash the pre filter with water and detergent.
Step 8. Put the post filter back in its place then put the filter door back in its place.
Step 9. When the pre filter is dry, put it back in the vacuum canister.
Step 10. Reconnect the vacuum canister to vacuum cleaner. You can start using the vacuum cleaner again.
