Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner-Indepth Review

The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is another member of the Dyson V7 sub group.

We say another because we just wrote a review on one of the members, the Dyson V7 Motherhead Vacuum. You could check it out here.

For those who don’t know, the Dyson V7 Vacuum is the third series of a four part vacuum series from the Dyson brand. Each series is an improvement on the previous and has is its own little subsect.

The other series in this four part include the Dyson V6, The Dyson V8 and the Dyson V10.

Furthermore, the Dyson V8 was actually released before the Dyson V7. So what we actually have in order of production is V6, V8, V7 and then the V10.

The idea is Dyson pushed out the V6 and then the V8. So, there is a low budget vacuum cleaner (depends on your definition) and a high budget one with a couple of improvements.

Then Dyson pushes out the V7 and it becomes a kinda savior. How? Some people would have looked at that V8 and gone like “I want this but I’m not sure I can afford it”.

They then see the V7 and are like “This one is better than the V6, maybe not with all the features of the V8 but it is more affordable”. We’re sure you see this.

Now, let’s get to the review.

Who Would Need The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner?

Basically anybody who needs a vacuum cleaner would be alright with the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum. And when we are done reviewing all the different parts of the Dyson V7 Animal, you’ll understand why we said so.

However, to be more specific, pet owners would definitely benefit from this vacuum cleaner. In fact, the name of the cleaner already suggests to us the specialty of the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum.

The Dyson V7 Animal comes with tools that are specially for scooping up hair; pet hair, human hair, any kind of hair. So, if there is always shed hair all over your home, this vacuum cleaner could be useful to you.

Furthermore, the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum can be used to reach into and clean up tight spaces like those corners between your car seats.

Features Of The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

1. The Head

Permit us to refer to everything about the dustbin, the handle and the connection point as the head.

It is positioned at the top and contains very vita parts, much like the human head. So, the head.

Anyway, one of the parts of the head is the handle. That is, the part that you have to hold while operating the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum.

Now, if you are not familiar with Dyson vacuum cleaners, you might argue that you don’t necessarily have to hold the cleaner there while in use and you would be wrong. Here’s why.

On the inside of the handle is the power button.

Now, unlike regular power buttons that you just click and the instrument comes on, this power button requires that you continue to hold down the button till you’re done using the cleaner.

Once you let go, the cleaner will go off.

Furthermore, there is the dustbin. With the Dyson V7 series, Dyson decided to make things a bit more sanitary and the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum is not left out.

At the top of the dustbin is a release lever. What happens is, you pull that lever and the cyclones pull up, thereby pushing the debris down just as the dustbin opens up at the bottom.

It is really a fascinating thing and you don’t even have to touch the debris.

What’s more, there is a narrow tube-like thing pointing out of the head. That is the connection point for the actual cleaning tools which we’ll look at later.

Now, atop that tube is a release button. Pushing that button disengages whatever cleaning tool is attached to the connection point.

Lastly, there’s a mode button. There are two modes, the normal and the max mode, and the mode button helps you switch.

2. The Cleaning Tools

First off is the large motorized bar brush. This is that regular cleaning tool that is used for hardwood floors, carpets and maybe even rugs.

The power of this brush bar is 75% more than what you have with the V6 series. And this is supposed to translate into more accurate cleaning and even reach.

However, it is important that you know that the Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner has a bit less suction in normal mode (21%) than the V6 series (25%). They have the same suction power in max mode, though (100%).

As a result, the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum on the normal mode cannot pick up large debris, at least not on the first pass.

On max mode, though, it should be able to do the job. However, there is a little snag we’ll discuss later.

Next is the combination tool. Now, the combination tool is exactly what it says; a combination of two cleaning tools in one.

One of them is a sort of suction tool while the other is a small bristle brush. This allows for quick switch between tools.

There is also a dusting brush. The dusting brush is usually used for smooth and sometimes tricky surfaces like window panes, screens and even keyboards.

The dusting brush is soft and should not hurt these sensitive items.

Furthermore, there is a mini motorized tool. This one is what you’ll use to get off all the hair from your furniture and car seat.

It’s basically just a small sized brush bar and can do what the bigger model can on a smaller scale.

Lastly, there is the crevice tool. From the name, you might have deduced that this tool is used in reaching those hard to reach places like corners and crevices.

3. The Vacuum Wand

The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is a versatile machine.

You can attach any of the cleaning tools directly to the connection point (well maybe not the large motorized brush bar) and make use of it as a handheld device.

However, if you are looking to get more reach, maybe your ceiling or underneath a cupboard, the vacuum wand will come in handy.

Now, the vacuum wand is just a fancy name for that stick that makes the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum function as a stick vacuum cleaner.

You’ll need to attach the stick to the connection point and then attach the cleaning tool you need to the stick.

Now, in attaching the stick (or cleaning tool) to the connection point, be sure that you hear a click. Because that click tells you that whatever you attached is secure.

4. The Battery

First off, the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum is rechargeable and there are two ways you can recharge it.

One, you could just plug the charger to a socket (the Dyson V7 Animal comes with its own charger) and plug the charger to the cleaner. The charging port is on the head.

Two, you could use the docking station. Now, the docking station does two things for you.

One, it provides a conducive place for you to charge your cleaner. You’ll have to mount it close to a socket, though, so that you can pass the charger through the docking station.

Two, it helps you properly store the Dyson V7 Animal without having to always disassemble.

Furthermore, talking about the battery life, there are different circumstances under which the battery life will last different.

A normal circumstance is no motorized tool and no max mode. Under that circumstance, the battery should last for 30 minutes.

However, if you are using a motorized tool in normal mode, the time will be slashed down to 20 minutes. On the other hand, the max mode with any tool affords you only 6 minutes.

Furthermore, because getting the battery off isn’t easy (you’ll need a screwdriver), it’s almost impossible to switch batteries.

As a result, you’ll have to wait for the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum to be recharged before you can use it again. And just so you know, the Dyson V7 Animal needs to be charged for 3 hours and 30 minutes before the first use.

A few things to note about the battery. One, solid blue light means the battery is charging while flashing blue means it isn’t charging.

Furthermore, amber means the cleaner isn’t charging due to a temporary default while flashing light means the default is more serious. No light at all means it is done charging.

How User Friendly Is The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner?

The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is quite easy to figure out on your own. To get things going, you hold down the power button till you’re done.

To put in the appropriate cleaning tool, you push it into the connection point till you hear the click. And to get it out, you press the release button.

In fact, a good number of the actions you’ll take to get things going is about pressing a button and we don’t see that being a problem.

Pros Of The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

1. Picks Up Hair

We like that the Dyson V7 Animal Vacuum Cleaner comes with a feature that can clean up things as fragile as hair. And we think this is especially good news for pet parents.

Nobody can contest your love for your pet. However, having their hair all over the place could be a bit of a damper sometimes. So yes, the Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner does help.

2. Soft Brush Tool

We also like the soft brush that allows one to lightly dust sensitive surfaces without harming them. This brush doesn’t have any suction and just lightly goes over any surface dislodging the dust.

3. Sanitary

Because of how the dustbin works, you can dispose of the content without having to touch said content.

Cons Of The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

We’ll start by saying we don’t understand why Dyson decided to reduce the suction on the V7.

See also  Dyson V6 vs DC44 – Which Is The Better Option?

We think the idea is to have a longer lasting battery power but we are sure there are better ways to do that.

The way this cleaner is, you’ll have to pass it over whatever surface a couple of times to get a clean sweep.

This already defeats the battery argument because you spend more time cleaning particular surfaces while the battery steadily drops.

Yet, the Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner can’t pick up large debris unless it is on max mode. These are issues that could have easily been taken care of.

Also, the Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner costs quite a bit, especially for a cleaner that last for only 30 minutes without the motorized tools.

FAQs About The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

  • What is the difference between a Dyson V7 Motorhead and a Dyson V7 Animal?

Well, these two are basically the same as they are models in the same series. However, the basic difference is in the accessories they come with.

Yes! That’s one of the reasons you have the mini motorized brush bar.

  • Does the head swivel to reach under the bed?

Yes it does. It should be able to reach under practically any furniture.

What People Think About The Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

People seem to like the Dyson V7 Animal especially since it comes with a few things that the Motorhead doesn’t. However, the cost of the thing seems to be an issue for a good number of people.

Actually though, it looks to us like people would have been more forgivable of the cost if it gave more than it does.

Like, if the battery lasted longer and/or one didn’t need to wait a long time to reuse. Or if the cleaner could actually take care of the large debris.

Our Take

Of all the models in the Dyson V series, we can honestly say that the Dyson V7 models are our least favorites and the Dyson V7 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner isn’t left out.

Granted this one gives more options with the mini motorized brush bar and all. However, we think the other series provide more value for the money.
